2025 Season Preview presented by JOZBET
After putting ourselves through a grueling two and a half hours of drafting the UFC’s finest, we are now officially ready to kick off the 2025 season. The draft had its ups and downs and definitely tested our managers’ fight knowledge. The new rule of selecting one fighter from each weight division had team owners scratching their heads looking through the rankings of Women’s Flyweight and the amazingly shallow Heavyweight division.
To preface before you sink your teeth into this year’s preview, JOZBET is not actually taking wagers this year. All for fun and happy to have some back and forth if you think you were unfairly placed.
Before we get into the breakdown it’s important to know:
SAH = Safe as houses (picks that involve little to no risk)
CBA = Could Be Anything
MID = Nothing wrong with the pick but not getting anyone off their chair
EC = Early Crow (As we know from the award, jumping early at someone)
WWTT = What were they thinking?
Bisping Right Eye, Shara Right Eye - $5.5
While deep MMA knowledge was definitely on show with our newest addition, the manager was one of the slower selectors throughout the course of the night. Although it may pay off, to come in with no expectation and land the roster he has is impressive. With pick one went the obvious choice and then got rewarded on the turn with expected first rounder Zhang Weili. He may have crossed the Commissioner with this selection but it will no doubt pay dividends. Mixed in some nice picks with some average ones late.
SAH: Islam Makhachev (C), Zhang Weili
CBA: Carlos Prates, Joshua Van, Mick Parkin
MID: Bogdan Guskov, Mario Bautista, Sean Woodson, Gabriella Fernandez
EC: Sean Strickland, Mayra Bueno Silva
My Balls Was Hot - $12
On the other side of the coin was Mack. We love someone here at JOZBET that comes in with little to no knowledge and has a dip, Dangerous Rangerous proved last year that you can still put a list together without watching every weekend.
As for the draft, he may have slipped on pick 2 in my opinion but we will have to wait and see, the season is going to heavily depend on his two champions defending their belts at 311 & 312. Overall an okay first draft and extra points for drafting your namesake which should be double points if the big fella gets a KO.
SAH: Derrick Lewis
CBA: Merab Dvalishvili (C), Dricus Du Plessis, Brandon Moreno, Paddy Pimblett, Jacqueline Cavalcanti, Oumar Sy
Mid: Aljamain Sterling, Rose Namajunas, Jessica Andrade
WWTT: Gilbert Burns
The Bustanutters - $7
Last year’s bottom dweller started a new lease on life after a very hard to watch season. The team is looking good again, but has Adrian gone a year early once more on some of these fighters for title chances? All being said some solid picks and a great retain should hopefully see him own a champion at the end of the year.
SAH: Shavkat Rakhmanov (C)
CBA: Diego Lopes, Carlos Ulberg, Renato Moicano, Asu Almabayev, Maycee Barber
MID: Marcus McGhee, Nassourdine Imavov, Ketlyn Viera, Gillian Robertson
WWTT: Cyril Gane
Dagestani Smesh Brothers - $5
Another team with a down year last year who looks to be right in the mix in 2025. Retaining a guy who has to fight for a belt this year, with a mix of up and coming and established talent, this roster looks to be in the top few for the year.
SAH: Khamzat Chimaev (C)
CBA: Kayla Harrison, Joaquin Buckley, Kai Kara France, Khalil Roundtree, Said Nurmagomedov, Jack Jenkins
MID: Mackenzie Dern, Shamil Gaziev, Vivian Araujo
EC: Dan Hooker
Just Bleed - $5.5
The Commissioner zeroed in on some research this year after a lacklustre debut season in the league. Some handy trading propped Alex into some good spots and found a complete roster before round 8 started. A wise decision in the end not to keep Weili and some post draft news on Jon Jones could get this team deep into the year.
SAH: Tom Aspinall (C)
CBA: Caio Borralho, Peyton Talbott, Tatsuro Taira, Natalia, Silva, Jean Silva, Michael Morales, Jaqueline Amorim
MID: Youssef Zalal, Ailin Perez, Navajo Sterling
Aussie Bottom Team - $15
We knew this was coming, after being called out on the pre-draft article, nerves had to have been high and Spenny just needed to get through without any majorly embarrassing picks. His first pick of the night, the same pick that won him Early Crow of the Year last year has struck again. It is not all bad though a solid middle and finish will keep ABT from falling apart come years end. Could an Amanda Nunes return be in store?
CBA: Max Holloway (C), Ian Garry, Brandon Royval, Raul Rosas Jr, Amanda Nunes, Alex Volkanovski
MID: Sergei Pavlovich, Jiri Prochazka, Amanda Lemos, Miranda Maverick
WWTT: Isreal Adesanya
Dana White Supremacists - $15
It's pleasing to hear that Bill was hooking into as many pints of Balter XPA as he could get his hands on, although there is clearly some decisions last night that were heavily affected. Some bright lights are the hope that Pantoja can have another year as champ and Petr Yan has his comeback season and fights for the belt come years’ end.
SAH: Alexandre Pantoja (C)
CBA: Magomed Ankalaev, Petr Yan, Bryce Mitchell
MID: Alexa Grasso, Ming Shi, Benoit Saint Denis
EC: Jon Jones, Leon Edwards
WWTT: Paulo Costa, Meisha Tate
Dangerous Rangerous - $10
Coming in with a clear strategy to beat all the sexists in the room to all the female fighters worked a charm. Trading up to get Tatiana Suarez could be season defining. If Shevchenko goes through to the end of season with the belt this team could be amongst the leaders.
CBA: Valentina Shevchenko (C), Tatiana Suarez, Juliana Pena, Shara Magomedov, Felipe Lima, Grant Dawson, Ramazan Terimov
MID: Vinicious Oliviera, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, Rinat Fakhertdinov
EC: Jamahal Hill
Dropkick Murphys - $10
Got to take your licks when they come to you, average night. Jumped early on Kape/Tsarukyan. Revisited Trauma with my worst pick of last year. Mid to late table finish seems about right, need a lot to go my way starting at 311 fighting for both belts.
CBA: Umar Nurmagomedov (C), Arman Tsarukyan, Movsar Evloev, Anthony Hernandez, Oban Elliot, Jailton Almeida
MID: Iasmin Lucindo, Kennedy Nzechukwu, Macy Chiasson
EC: Manel Kape
WWTT: Erin Blanchfield
The Last Bender - $6.5
Revenge season for last year’s runner up, drafting pretty well right down the board. Will need Alex Periera to stay in Light Heavyweight and keep rattling people’s chins to stay at the top but that wouldn’t surprise anyone. Hoping for a Manon Fiorot title shot to grab some extra points.
SAH: Alex Pereira (C)
CBA: Belal Muhammed, Manon Fiorot, Virna Jandiroba, Bo Nickal, Chase Hooper
MID: Arnold Allen, Cory Sandhagen, Waldo Cortez Acosta, Raquel Pennington
WWTT: Amir Albazi
Don Bones Jones - $6
Can last year’s winner start to build a dynasty? Retaining one of the great cats in the UFC who will probably go undefeated all year is a good start. Could be a long wait to see if Ditcheva reaches the UFC. Overall. some solid picks of guys hanging around the top and some new faces should give Bray the mix to among the best again.
SAH: Ilia Topuria (C)
CBA: Jack Della Maddalena, Charles Oliviera, Sean O’Malley, Kai Asakura, Zhang Ming Yang
MID: Norma Dumont, Alexander Volkov, Joe Pyfer, Amanda Ribas
WWTT: Dakota Ditcheva
